(16+9+3+25+3)/5 = 11.2

That's an exact answer; no rounding to the nearest tenth needed.

(I don't have a smartnest. As a matter of fact, I have no birds that would need a nest, smart or otherwise.)

average=add up all the numbers in the set divide by how many numbers you got in the set
16+9+3+25+3=56
56/5=11.2

I'm stumped. For the life of me, I can't figure out what "smartnest" is. It's not in my 20 volume OED even.

You should already know how to calculate an average, but if you don't, sum the numbers in the set and divide by the number of members.

average(sub n) = sum (x (sub i)) / n, where n= the number of elements in the set and i = elements of the set 1, 2, 3 ... n

Rounding to the nearest tenth for 11.2 would be 11. no one did that

(16 + 9 + 3 + 25 + 3) / 5

56 / 5 = 11.2

Dang my calculator is smart. Too bad it's got no brains. If ya don't have one... Don't feel bad =D.
