Okay, let's see...
1) Calendar method...works great if you're like clockwork every month. Otherwise, you're just "supposing" when you are fertile every month.
2) OPKs....predict your LH surge, not ovulation. Your LH surge happens 12-36 hours before you ovulate. So you may or may not be able to figure out exact date of ovulation.
Third option and best option.... basal body temperature charting. BBT charting tells you EXACTLY what day you ovulated based on the temp changes in your cycle. The only drawback is it's not advanced notice. You figure out when you've ovulated AFTER it's happened, but at least you know for sure you ovulated and when.
What I would suggest is to combine methods. Continue to track your cycles on a calendar so you have history on your periods. USE OPKs to detect your LH surge so you have notice as to when ovulation is coming. Start having sex every other day the day your start testing. The day you turn positive, have sex that day and every day after that for 4 days. Use your BBT chart to confirm that ovulation took place that cycle.
Here's a free website to help you chart your BBT temps...

14 days is a total myth. Every woman is different. If you use an OPK kit here are some I've had success with: Clear Blue Easy digital-gives you a smiley face when you're at your LH peak. First Response has been accurate and easier to read than others as well. I would suggest reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It gives you valuable information on how to chart your fertility by using a basal thermometer. I think every woman who's TTC should read this book. Good luck!

ovulation kits definitly help! use the clearblue easy digital brand.it works by using a smiley face during the two days before you ovulate and a sad face if your not. its a bit pricey though. im using a "Rite Aid" brand one with lines. nothing yet for me, but i got antsy and started testing early! good luck!

you have to look at all your body changes on a daily basis. when ovulating you will experience cramping, slight sharp pain in your stomach (lower left or lower right) and of course the cervical mucus.
I would recommend you have sex every other day. Sperm lives inside of you for about 5 days. Experts say sex every other day in order to build up the sperm count.
