I know pickups rides are bouncy, but is there anything you can do to smooth out the ride besides weighing down the bed?

My guess would be to upgrade the shocks with units that have adjustable dampening so you could see what suits you. If you can afford them, get the ones with that are externally adjustable so you dont have to take them out agian to adjust. The externally adj. ones are also helpfull from going from a soft comfy setting, to a harder stiffer setting for going wheeling and camping, on the fly in like 5 min.

EDIT: I highly advise any others idea of lowering tire pressure, you described the problem as 'bouncy' which is entirely a suspension problem. That, and low tire pressure causes many blowouts...

Mine has a pretty nice ride for a truck. I would suggest replace the springs and shocks with air bags. They do it on low riders. They replaced the old hydro motors.
More expensive but you can lay that baby on the asphalt if you want too.

Put a few dead bodies in the bed of the truck! It may smell bad but it should ride alot smoother! (Just kidding)

It depends on the truck. An old straight axle, Superlift Soft ride or deaver springs

A newer torsion truck, sag the torsion bars

A new coil over strut type, they already drive nice

Try lowering the tire pressure, look on the sidewall of the tires and there will be a lower and upper tire pressure lower it to the lower value.
