Too big, too costly to maintain, too wide spread. And those ruled under any foreign country want their freedom. From our great country (the USA) to India and Pakistan, people want to be free. The UK now could not maintain its once enormous empire. Sure sometimes it goes wrong, look at Zimbabwe, but more often than not, it doesn't - the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand.

It only appears that there is no Empire, the formal title of "Empire" is no longer required.
Around the back All countries are friendly, Wars are only an illusion to keep the sleeping masses under control.

Imperialism was an idea that had had its day. Britain withdrew from the empire to form the commonwealth and allow home rule. Seems fair to me. I don't think imperialists were evil; they just wanted to bring "european civilisation" to the world. It sounds ridiculous now which is why we don't have an empire any more. Britain's withdrawal was a lot more dignified than, say, France's where they were pushed out kicking and screaming.

Empires are a thing of the past. Times change. We just moved with the times.

Don't think they want it to fall apart.
Took for granted those colony can take care of themselves.
In continiuing where they had left them in advancing in time.
With time and "My way" they seem to be moving backwards in time without being aware of the mess of their own creation where they had left them with "The young one" all climbing up the coconut trees and still look green.
With living examples of Afghanistan and Iraq.

because we couldn't afford to keep it together. its expensive to run so many different countries and we didn't have the man power or money to do it, plus after WW2 we were a little more worried with the fact that our own country was in a state of ruin, so we had to let the likes of india run themselves.
Plus i think most of the countries wanted independence and its a little much of us to insist that when germany tries to take over the world they are evil but when we are doing it its for their own good.

It got too expensive. By the end of the first world war, Britain was nearly bankrupt.
