Birth control pills is the only way you can change you body chemistry.... and since you want to change your period (which means changing you body chemistry) you need birth control pills.

When I was off the pill i would have a period last up to 8 days with mind numbing cramps and extreme fatigue and bloating plus a heavy flow.... Now thats I am on the pill I have a period for 3-4 days, light flow and without hardly any cramps and no mood swings.... Its great... try it.

In addition to the pill you can also increase the level of iron during this time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course). By increasing the iron levels it will help ease the flow some so that you won't hurt so bad during that time.
