I have a proposal for a fair means test to determine whether families and individuals should be eligible for the U.S. Socialized health care that is likely to result if Hillary gets elected. How about disallowing any individual that owns a car valued at more than $22,000 and families with 2 cars valued more than $44,000 (and no single car more than $22,000)? This seems like a fair means test, anyone who can afford an expensive car should be able to afford health insurance (in my mind, anyone who owns a $30,000 car certainly has a lot of discretionary funds, so why should I be paying their health care costs). It would not prevent less advantaged people from owning new cars either. In fact, they would own small, more fuel efficient cars that would save energy and have a lower carbon foot print (the people in the program would also be saving money on fuel and insurance). This seems like a fair and equitable means test, so I’m sure a lot of people will hate this idea.

Some sort of equitable means test will need to be implemented, but I doubt it will, Hillary will force us all to accept whatever half-baked scheme she comes up with and live with the consequences. I was just watching Gwen Awful on the PBS news a few minutes ago, and the person she was interviewing was complaining about how many families making $75, 000 can't afford health insurance. Surely they aren't spending their money wisely if that is the case. I also heard another report last week that people in Canada are against Hillary's health plan since then they won't be able to come down here to escape their plan (like those quadruplets last week).

I love reading the responses to these sorts of questions. The question itself is plenty reasonable. Some of the responses not quite so. Did someone seriously insinuate that every poor person has the money to buy a big screen T.V., cell phones and a car but just does not buy healthcare? And that they're all fat? It's amazing. Most everyone I've talked to that hates socialized medicine seems to believe that the poor can afford good health care, but just refuse to, or believe in medicare and medicaid, 2 programs that refuse more people for health care than any other in the country. Anyone who reads this I want to understand my point, so here it is: most of these people don't have a choice. They can't shop for insurance at different places, searching for what's just right for them and buying it. Insurance is expensive, and the thoughts of the upper and middle classes is, well we can afford it, why can't they? It's not because they're lazy. It's not because they're bad workers. It's not because they just haven't tried. Their jobs could have been taken from them, their stock could have plunged, any number of factors, but stop blaming them for their poorness. We live in a nation of freedom, but we don't understand that not everyone is free to be rich and powerful.

$22,000 is too much. You can get a mustang for that.
You can get a nice eclipse for like $10,000 right now. I'd put the cap at $10,000 pretax blue book value. Also, no sports cars or SUVs.

OMG are you serious? This is so ignorant on so many levels. People would just buy $21,999.99 cars to be able to get the free benefits.

I had a conversation with someone from the U.K. about their healthcare system. He said the buildings are old and dirty, quality is poor, and half of the doctors are from Pakistan because of low wages.
Here's my plan:
If you want government healthcare, pay an extra 10, 15, 20% on top of your income tax. The healthcare system would get only as much money as collected from the people who paid for it in taxes.
Don't tax me or my kids for your healthcare, fatty!

Why don't we base it off the British system. Everyone has basic coverage and if you want to buy up as a middle or upper class member you can.
