I had surgery on my ankle and had a plate, 11 screws and 3 pins put in. I just had the cast removed today and they gave me a walking boot, but I cant put any weight on it for another month. I also have a skin irritation and have to put antibotic ointment on it three times a day and leave the boot off as much as possible so that can heal. The pain is really bad and worse than any other time during the rest of my injury. Just wondering if anyone had any similar injuries and if this is somewhat normal. Thanks In Advance.

I had the exact same break 2 months ago and I'm still in a boot. About 2 weeks after they put the boot on I started to have horrible pain. I ended up calling the nurse helpline at midnight and they told me my boot wasn't tight enough. My ankle wasn't sitting in the proper position which was why I was having so much pain. Make sure your boot is on correctly and if the problem persists definitely call your doctor! I've got six weeks of non weight bearing left, it gets easier trust me, soon enough you won't even feel the pain, just the annoyance of crutches lol good luck!

i've never had surgery on my ankle, how ever i have been through several casts, splints, blah blah blah. and pain is normal. your muscles are weak and since your cast is off there is less presure on it. follow your doctor's advice and if the pain is almost unbearable, make an appt. asap. it never hurts to be safe. hope you feel better soon!

Your leg muscles are weak from having been splinted for so long and suddenly their support is removed. Wishing you good luck.
