The other day I was mowing my lawn and all of a sudden the engine started to sputter for about 5 seconds then started working fine again. Now about every 30 seconds, the engine will sputter then run fine. I've replaced the filter and the spark plug and still have the problem. Any other tricks i could do?

Sounds like you might have water or some sort of debris in the fuel tank. I would drain it out and make sure it is clean. Water will look like blobs on the bottom of the tank. Don't tip the mower over to get the gas out, you will get oil where you don't want it. You could drain the oil first and than tip the mower over. I am assuming that you have a briggs engine with the carburetor mounted on top of the fuel tank. You can remove the whole thing and dump the tank out but be aware of how the linkage and springs hook to the carburetor. An easier way may be to use a turkey baster to get most of the gas out and than paper towels to absorb the rest.

Try changing the fuel like suggested , if that doesnt work, then try removing and cleaning the carburator, it might have a lil crud intermidantlly moving, causing your sputter.

empty the gas out of the tank and replace with gas that doesnt have water in it and you will be just fine
