I am curious. I worked for a pizza place. I make a good, accurate pies. I also make pizzas as fast as possible remembering customers in mind. I would like the delivery drivers to deliver pizzas as fast as possible and so I try my best to make pizzas quick. Drivers also get paid per hour and also gt paid for mileage. After I do all that for customers why do only drivers get tips for being there on time, bringing good pizza, or for giving any extra items.

I feel like drivers are taking advantage of pizza makers and others who helped the driver to deliver pizza to the customer. Dont i deserve the all or part of the tip money?

Because of gas prices and since the prices are going up they expect more but be carefull because they add tips on to your total and you dont know that so your giving more than you really should

gas prices have nothing to do with it. The tips are for the drivers not the pizza company. I was a delivery driver too(and yes, I am a girl). We got tips because like working in a restaurant, when you deliver food to the table in an accurate and timely mannor...you deserve tips. Especially when you are making minimum wage, then tips really do matter.
Deliver drivers can make some really good money. On an average night I would work 3-4 hours and come home with anywhere from $30-$80 for the night.
NOT BAD HUH!!!

Drivers get tipped because of the wear and tear that they have to deal with on their vehicle. Yes we get mileage for gasoline but what most chains give their drivers is miniscule compared to how much gas costs. It is suggested that a driver should have at least $1000 in their bank account to fix any problems with brakes, tires, or anything involved with their vehicle. Image is also an important part and our vehicle and it should appear clean on the outside and in (if the image of the car is in critical condition [rust or missing seats] then the manager can suspend the delivery driver from working delivery shifts)

You don't have to drive to your job. You can walk, ride a bike, or take a train/subway if you live in a bigger city. I'm sure you do a great job making pizza and whatever sides your company produces but they have to pay a lot to keep their vehicle up to standards. That is why you should tip the driver and why the cook does not receive any tips.

Pizza drivers are considered waitstaff on wheels. People tip for prompt service. As a matter of fact, the word tips stands for "To Insure Prompt Service." We used to have a tip jar for the kitchen staff when I managed a pizzeria here in Amarillo, TX. I required my drivers to put in 15% for the cooks and phone people. That way everyone was taken care of in a way that kept us all in unity as a team. However, it's not required that a waiter or waitress tip the kitchen for a job well done in most places.

If you want to make better money, get your license, get a car, and become a driver. You will have much better income that way.

Oh, and by the way, just because I get tipped as a delivery driver doesn't mean that I am keeping all that cash. I have to think about gasoline, insurance, which is more expensive for group III (commercial) liability, maintenance and replacement of my car, which I'm destroying on the job. As a cook you have no investment in your job, other than your uniforms and laundry costs.

If you think the drivers have it so good put down the apron and deliver pizzas then. Look at it this way you get paid whether people eat in, take out or pick up, the delivery guy only gets a tip when he/she has a pizza to deliver and when and if the customer gives it to him/her.

Good question! I always tip my delivery person, but whenever I am in pizza parlor and order a pizza to go, I tip the people making my pizza too.

So for me, I try to be appreciative to both.

Keep in mind everyone that what this guy wants to know is whether he should take a percentage of his delivery guys' tips. Answer with this in mind.

It's the driver that the people see. If there is going to be a tip, he or she is the one that gets it. Same as in a restaurant, nobody tips the cook or the chef, as the case may be.

Personally...I tip the delivery guy because i don't drive. It's a service & a convenience for me....and the cost of gas is outrageous!
