I had Breast Cancer in 2001 and was terrified of sleeping for ages after I had my surgery and chemo. I realised that I had had a brush with death and was frightened of going to sleep and never waking up again! I've just come out of hospital again today and the nursing staff were forever grumbling at me being awake half the night, I still don't sleep too well and my addiction to this site proves it lol:-)) I rarely dream even when I do sleep, or should I say I rarely remember what I dream about? Sorry if this doesn't help very much.

If I have a scary dream I'm apprehensive about going to sleep the following night. Some of my dreams come true ie I'll dream I'm driving and a car pulls out on me and then within a week, the car that I dreamt about, will pull out on me. Others are can just be a nasty compilation of recent events ie horror film, recently watched, played by work colleagues etc. At the end of the day though - you need to sleep/dream, so no point worrying about what you can't change...

I used to be terrified of going to sleep when I was a kid because of nightmares about zombies lol!! Nowadays I have terrible dreams about my recently deceased Mum so I really dislike going to sleep because I know I'll have one.

It still takes me a long time to get to sleep. It still freaks me out what ppl say i do, and what i have done in my sleep. I have been know it hit ppl i sleep with, and have woken up with black eye and brozes down my arm. Plus they say i talk, walk and sleep with my eyes open sometimes so you really would not know if i am asleep or not mad hey. Lately i have not done it but it dose really freak me that i can and have done that.

If it is because you think that you will have a nightmare, just remember this. When you have a nightmare, you can control just by recognising that it is a nightmare.
And it does work, I use it myself because I keep having recurring nightmares sometimes and I control the nightmare as I recognise that it cannot hurt me but I can hurt the nightmare so to speak

My solution was to go to sleep while having my Nightmare on Elm street dvd collection playing continuously in the background.
It works for us!.

At times I think about it at times, but then forget about it.It makes me feel better than I'll wake up afterwards.
