On one of the trailers we have the rubber hub cap plug is melting and the hub cap itself seem to be expanding. We checked the wheel bearing and everything is fine. Does anyone know what causes this and how can I solve this problem?

itsiantly a problem with excessive heat. You say it's fine as far as the wheel bearings go, but there's 'way more to it than that. Best to run it, and use an infrared temperature gun to verify equal temperatures side to side/wheel to wheel. There's GOT to be an issue with brakes dragging , or an inside seal blown, or a bad bearing/race to cause the kind of heat buildup you're seeing.

Does it have trailer brakes maybe the brakes are sticking on I have seen electric trailer brakes stick on until you back up. If this is happening you would not feel any thing when you jack up the axle because the brake would probably release before you got it in the air. The brakes could also be adjusted to tight and when they heat up the parts expand and start to rub. The hotter the brakes get the more they apply in that case.

That is a bit of a complex problem, certainly one ive never heard of before. I would call a mechanic or a professional of some sort.
