IT IS PEOPLE WHAT MAKES A COUNTRY A COUNTRY, SO WHY DONT WE ALL GET TO VOTE ON EVERY ISSUE THAT EFFECT'S OUR LIVES, INSTEAD WE ALLOW A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE TO DECIDE OUR FATE.

computer technology could easily sort out the counting of votes, and it has been avalable for years and years and years, if they had technology to put a man on the moon surely they could have made a program that counts votes

Yes but if you don't like what they do then you vote for someone else next time there's an election. That is how democracy works.

I don't suppose you realise just how naive your idea of everyone voting on every issue actually is. For a start, who is going to decide what the issues are? How are you going to get 60million people all to agree on the issues so that they can go forward for voting? Sheesh, how naive and ill thought through

Well if nobody voted it would make the counting easier (lol)

but it is a tough choice about whether an abstention would be a better statement than a protest vote to a minor party/independent candidate for those of us who feel that the political system really isn't taking any real notice of how we want our country to be governed.

I have said before I would really like to see 'none of the above' as the last option on the ballot paper, with the proviso that if it got the majority vote the election in that ward/constituency was rerun.
I hope that this will come to pass and I keep touting the idea at every opportunity, certainly those in power (all politicians) are unlikely to support this option for obvious reasons but I think it would enhance our democracy greatly.

Okay, lets say we have an issue. We all have to vote on it. Most people know very little of the details, legalities etc. and each must cast a vote. How many hundred million people live in the USA? Do you realize how long that would take? We would never get anything done. People knew the value of a republic centuries ago. Pure democracy is impractical in any large group of people. To be a part of it all start contacting your reps in DC. Don't let up. Bug them constantly. Use email, phone, letters. You only have 3 to keep track of, two Senators and a House member. If we the people want to take our government back we have to let those who represent us know how we want to be represented. If all they hear from is lobbyists and big corporations than they will likely go that way. Be polite but remind them that you vote and you may have money for campaigns if you are happy with the job they are doing. This works for me. I am a regular pest. I have actually had a one-on-one with my Congressman. While we don't agree on everything we do agree on most things. Just before I left I reminded him he worked for me not the other way around. One of the things we disagreed on and he was adamant about was changed to the way I wanted it when he voted. I think he even offered an amendment to the bill in question. That amendment would give me more of what I wanted instead of what lobbyists, corporate interests and he wanted. Encourage others to do the same. If we don't take back our country soon we will have no country to take back.

Instead of not voting, why not register with the Republicans and vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. If he wins, he intends to rollback the size of government by massive levels so that we can all decide how to live our lives without either voting on it or letting a bunch of demagogues vote on it.

Look how many people don't bother to vote when we ask them to turn out every couple of years.

Now imagine asking them every month! If you think voter apathy is a problem now, more voting isn't the answer.

It would take all year to count all the votes...and then some would get lost...others would be counted twice...others would wind up in the trash...what a nightmare!

Ron Paul

We will vote

We will find the truth in the midst of koas

The eye will be open

The eyes of the World watching the all seeing eye

It will be amazing and revolutionary in response

I'm with you here. Either we all vote on everything - and we can do this with technology - or we don't vote at all.

Let's face it, a lot of people are too thick to decide the fate of the nation.

It's called a Democratic Republic, where you choose representatives to decide on laws and regulations.
