The age old question: Better to have been born and killed for food, or to have not been born at all.
The question I have is this: How much do the animals care what happens to them?
As far as I see it, the goals of an animal in life are the following:
1. Have enough to eat.
2. Be reasonably comfortable.
3. Produce a new generation.
Lacking evidence or proof that animals aspire to anything greater than the above list, I don't see anything wrong with eating them as long as those criteria are fulfilled.
Unless you can prove, or even provide evidence, that the animal has any regrets when it dies, why feel guilty about killing them? Humans probably die with more regrets than most animals do.
Note however: Just because I say that killing the animal is not in and of itself a cruel act, that does not make it right to keep animals in cruel conditions. The death of an animal is only free of guilt if their life was free of cruelty.

It IS right so long as slaughtering dogs for their meat is also right.
I prefer dog meat. And like the logic used by the other responder, since dogs are also down the food chain from humans, it is a perfectly good thing to do to breed the dogs, feed the dogs to get their meat to become tender and juicy, and then slaughter those dogs for their delicious meat!
john_mcd77, I feed and take care of dogs for their meat. Wanna try some?
southern_comfort: dogs have faces too. I can recommend dog meat to you if you have never tried it.
tll: I grow my dogs for the sole purpose of eating their meat. I can suggest some recipes for cooking dog meat.
abenezer s: Yes, exactly. Since it's necessary for me to enjoy dog meat, I have no problems feeding and killing the dogs for their meat. Wanna try some?

Funny, but the Bible tells us we can eat meat. No one or nothing ate meat before the Flood....even lions ate veggies...but after the flood, all game was game.
Why don't YOU PEOPLE take it out on carnivores, too? They RIP and SHRED animals and let them bleed to death. Humans kill animals they'll eat quickly.
Alligators DROWN their prey.
Hey, Veggies have feelings, too! Ever hear a lettuce scream when you cut off its head? Or hear the cries of a carrot when you pull it out of the ground? So sad.
Oh, and before you try throwing a guilt trip on meat eaters, learn to spell.
WRIGHT does not mean CORRECT.
PETA is a butt of all jokes here in s.e. Virginia (Norfolk..HQ...Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, etc).

If the pigs were grossly neglected and ill-fed than yes there should be justice. Though it is quite interesting that you use the word 'murder' when discussing the slaughtering of pigs. Is it murder when you wash your hands and slaughter millions of bacteria? Is it murder when you step on bugs and kill them? When do we begin to murder? Cruelty should be fought against... but not the food chain.

Have you rented "Fast Food Nation"? The book is better, but at the end of the movie, there is a very graphic scene where they show cows being slaughtered. It is truly sickening.

Those 9,000 pigs wouldn't have been born, fed, and taken care of medically if they didn't taste so good. Do you think they'd be better off having never existed?
Personally, I prefer beef
