The basic design has not changed. The kids today are just like the kids of yore, but society has changed around them and is exerting some unwelcome influences, and I don’t just mean the usual suspects.
For starters, we are such a car oriented culture that it is hard for kids to ride their bikes and otherwise get the physical activity they need. Having mom give you a ride to ball practice is not the same as meeting a gang of kids down the street for a pick up game.
We also expect too much from them in school. Don’t get me wrong, I expect kids to be smart, but I also believe that a lot of creativity comes from playing and just laying around, which most kids excel at, and which we don’t let them do enough of.
Other than that, the kids today are great, except for those dangerous Miss Teen USA contestants.

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer
rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents,
chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their
legs, and are tyrants over their teachers." -Plato

They're acting worse because adults don't discipline them enough today. They've been given too many priveleges by parents. A system has been created where they do wrong but are not properly disciplined because parents don't want them to hate them. You know you're being a good parent if they hate you at some point; you're doing your job. Parents need to be parents not best friends to their children. Everytime you turn around 15-17 year olds are getting pregnant, when parents don't help them their inexperience will take over.

Definitely not the same...when I was a kid (in the 70s) it was nothing for my mother to haul off and knock me one in the middle of the grocery store if I acted up and nobody thought anything of it. Now if a parent tries to discipline their kids, their kids are screaming child abuse. I see too many kids running amok nowadays, with the kids running the parents.

I think they're worse now than when I was a kid. Now you have 8 year olds carrying guns to school and getting into gangs before they even hit high school. I'm really scared for my son (when it's time for him to start school). It's not safe.

They are definately worse today! Today's kids are influenced by violence, pornography on the computer, music with explicit language. Back in the day, there wasn't a lot of that!

I am a kid today... and I think all the other ones are morons...
They dont wanna really learn or anything. Dont worry though. I like to read up on history on my own, so I know the text books are all lies and propaganda. So its probably better that they dont learn in school. I think 95% of my peers need to have crap beaten out of them.

Damn kids have it too easy !
They don't have any respect for authority, their elders or anyone else.
They're lazy !
They are selfish, it's all about them, all the time !

I am pretty sure that's what my dad would have said about us 40 years ago !

I think every generation thinks that the kids have it so much easier than they did.

I think they're about the same.

They have more obstacles...... and the world they live in now is a lot worse then it was when I was growing up.

But the young people that I know are pretty good....they're very concerned with their environment, their community, their futures.
