CYA? Sure, maybe.
MVP? No, no matter how deserving. Far too many writers have bought into the "starting pitchers cannot possibly be as valuable as an Everyday Player" idiocy -- a horrifying abdication of the ridiculously simplistic intellectual responsibilities of their positions -- and so simply WILL NOT VOTE for any pitcher.
Pedro Martinez' 1999 season was denied the AL MVP (despite his getting eight first place votes to winner Ivan Rodriguez' seven). If Pedro in that amazing year couldn't win MVP, no pitcher today can.

The last pitcher to win both the Cy Young and the MVP was Dennis Eckersley with the Oakland A's. He posted 51 saves along with 7 wins and 1 loss. He had an ERA of 1.91 over 80 innings, striking out 93 in 69 games.
I don't think Peavy will win the MVP with the season Prince Fielder is having.

I think Peavy can certainly win the Cy Young, in fact he would have my vote.
MVP may be a different story because many will not want to give it to a starting pitcher. There will be a sentiment that a SP only appears every five games or so, and that the MVP should go to an everyday player.

It is rare that a pitcher wins both awards. Peavy is my pick for NL Cy Young. I would go with Prince Fielder as NL MVP.

He'll win cy young if he keeps it up, but he will not win MVP it's hard for a pitcher too he would basically have to go undefeated to win the MVP. He doesn't play everyday and that's why it's rare too see a pitcher win MVP.

I hate the Padres but have a helluva lotta respect for Peavy the 'Bama boy. I'm rooting for him to win Cy Young. MVP, I don't think he'll win it.

Cy young yes...but winning M.V.P will be hard...the last AL MVP who was a pitcher was Dennis Eckersley in 1992 and for the NL
Bob Gibson in 1968..so...No it won't happen.

I wouldn't put anything past Jake Peavy, in my opinion he's the best pitcher in all of major league baseball right now, so yes he can. I don't know if he will, but he definitely can.
