(5/8) + (3/4) x = (1/16)
10 + 12x = 1
12x = - 9
x = - 9 / 12
x = - 3 / 4

3/4 x = 1/16 - 5/8
to add or subtract fractions, the denominators must be the same. on the right side (as I have written it) 5/8 is the same as 10/16, so
3/4 x = 1/16 - 10/16 = -9/16
now multiply both sides by 4/3 (note: 4/3 x 3/4 = 12/12 = 1)
x = (4/3)(-9/16) = -36/48 = -3/4
when you multiply fractions, multiply the numerators and the denominators.

test: 5/8 + (3/4)(-3/4) = 1/16
5/8 -9/16 = 1/16
10/16 -9/16 = 1/16

Multiply by the base of the fraction being multiplied by the variable.

So for the example you gave multiply all sides by 4. The result is 5/2 + 3x = 1/4. From then on just solve it like a normal equation.

given 5/8+3/4x=1/16

first, isolate the variable: (3/4)x = 1/16 - 5/8
perform operations on the left side...

(3/4)x = 1/16 - 10/16 = -9/16

(3/4)x = -9/16

cross multiply...

48x = -36

x = -36/48 = 3/4

soo make 5/8 and 3/4 and 1/16 have the same denominator
soo that would mean
5/8+6/8x=.5/8
seeing as you cant have .5 of a fraction ; go larger
10/16+12/16x=1/16
minus 10/16 from each side
12/16x= -9/16
OR
0.75x=-0.5625
then divide each side by .75
x=-0.75

Is that 3/(4x) or (3/4)x? It makes a big difference.

5/8+3/4x=1/16--------------*16
10+12x=1
12x=1-10
12x=-9
x=-9/12=-3/4
