Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluating the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market. Without pictures it is difficult for us to tell you.

Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

The 1864 Liberty Seated dollar in grade good has a value of $235 going up the grading scale to grade extra fine its $510 . It has of course different value for the in between circulated grades and is worth much more if in mint state. Mirrorcoin an up and coming collector and a numismatist some day, gave the correct mintage figure so no need for me to write any more. You have an interesting coin of the Civil War period. I hope you treat it with respect. This type of dollar is starting to rise in price so it may be worth your while not to sell it yeat. The values given are about what a dealer would pay.

Are you referring to the U.S. dollar? If so You have a Liberty Seated Dollar. They were minted from 1840-1873.Seated liberty dollars were designed by Christian Gobrecht. The year 1864 had a mintage of 30,700 if your coin grades VG8 (very good) then its value would be $250,if it grades fine then it's value would be $340.Do you have a coin dealer in your area? If so let him look at your coin.If I were you I would not sell your coin, for it's value will go up in the future.I hope this information helps answer your question.
