I'm American, but the British are cool on my list. Most anti-European sentiment is targeted against the French though. You will find nice and rude people everywhere in the world. They are not concentrated in just one area. That belief just leads to stereotypes and misunderstandings, etc.
The view that most Americans have of people like the English is that they are proud, and sometimes in a snobby, superior way. We're proud too. But as I said, that is just a generalization and I judge individuals, not nationalities.

I think you had a bad experience or two - personally I love the British. I have friends from there. I enjoy the music, entertainment and culture of the British Isles.

I usually find it is the ignorant or those trying to be funny who have less than kind things to say about the British (or anyone for that matter)

Be proud. I love the British. I love everyone except those who spread hate.
