Some lawyers do, but most do not. (I'm one of the ones that does not). Mostly, large law firms will mandate annual billing requirements for associates. The way to meet those requirements is to bill like crazy, work like crazy, or both.

It depends on the type of lawyer.
There are lawyers that work long days (wish they only worked 14 hours). Of course long days such as these cut into a social life.
However, all lawyers do not work that many hours.
In general, the more you expect to make as a lawyer, the longer the work day. Are you in a private practice trying to make partner? Once again long hours.

That is nonsense. They work 14 hour days when they first start with a very large firm and get the "let's see how well he/she stands up to the strain" treatment. With the money they make, they sure as heck don't work that many hours.

Absolutely not true. There are "some" 14 hour a day lawyers, however most work an average day or less.

Our society in general thinks that lawyers make crazy amounts of money. Those who do live the life you described. Some have to stay overnight, work weekends, and rarely get to see their husbands/wives and children. Thus the high rate of anxiety, depression, susbtance abuse and divorce among those in the legal profession.

Depends on the type of law you want to practice in and the type of firm they work in.

It may be true for some. Others may be getting their social life in the board room.

yeah it's that way until you make partner then it's not so much 14 hours, as it is about 10 hours... and then being 'on call' pretty much at any other time...
i saw my friend lose years off his life living this life...
