OK, Phriend you did mention boy or girl so I found some sites including both. My want to stay away from wood unless you can check them out and see what paint is used.

A one-year-old would probably take more interest in birthday cake than anything else. Have a small cake made just for the birthday kid to dig their fingers and faces into, and a larger cake to serve to party guests.

lead free is really limiting it nowadays....lol

you know what I saw the other day while toy shopping for Mary. A ride on catepillar that makes cool noises and stuff. We're gonna get her it for her birthday. You should check it out. We saw it at Wal-Mart. Pretty inexpensive too....I think it cost about $35.00

You'll have to search flea markets for some of the older, American made toys. At least that way, it's OUR lead they're eating.

wooden spoons and some plastic bowls.
cardboard boxes & paper bags to hide in are great, too.
Other than that, fabric books are safe, durable, educational, AND delicious.
