Is a top freezer more energy efficient than a bottom freezer, when comparing same size & functions?

I am looking for a refrigerator to replace my top freezer one. A friend is very happy with her bottom freezer and suggest me get one. But I am more energy converned.

In general top freezer models use less energy because the compressor which generates heat is below the 40 degree fridge section. In bottom freezer models the heat given off by the compressor is closest to the 20 degree freezer, which makes the system work a little harder to keep the freezer cold than it would to keep the fridge cold.
There are many models that are exceptions to this but be sure to get an Energystar labeled model and use the website below to choose a model with the highest Energy Factor EF that has the features you want .

If you are in the United States, refrigerators are labeled with an energy efficiency rating which you can compare. (Or they used to be, I haven't shopped for fridges lately). Cold air tends to sink, so I would think a bottom freezer would be more efficient. There are also side-by-side refrigerator-freezers.

Energy efficient !
It doesn't matter it's all a matter of choice ,they are all made to be energy efficient now days, and also it all depends on the size that you are looking for.

I want to get an upright one because I find that when a person gets older the bending and reaching is going to be difficult and it is easier to find things rather then searching all the at the bottom .

Personally, I don't think there is a big difference. My thinking is that the compressor and motor should be up at the top since heat rises.
