I must admit...although I have the answer to many questions, not even I can answer this one.
There are so many more places and ways to solicit such services that are 1) cleaner, 2) less public, 3) more established, and 4) have a vested interest in keeping their clients identities private.

It's a problem with repressed sexual drive. Some people are so closeted and so affraid to express their natural drives that they are left with annonymous sex with strangers.
I had a good friend in college, 27, 28 years ago. He was a faithful Catholic but he was also gay. He was really torn up by sexual guilt. We lived in the same house for a year and I didn't even know he was gay. It turns out he had confided in a mutual friend how he had had to seek out sex with strangers in parks and other public places because he felt he couldn't be found out.
Nobody knew about AIDS yet and he became the first person I knew to die from it.
He was a really great guy and it was such a lousy thing that fear of public shame can do that to someone.

Better yet, what would ever possess anyone from soliciting sex in a public bathroom? I will point out that he was guilty of disorderly conduct only. I am not defending him, just stating a fact. As a congressman, he and all of them should be beyond reproach when it comes to character.

leaving politics out of it seem to be impossible for some.
a friend of mine who taught at the college level was arrested and charged for a similar offense. he was so angry with himself and feared that he would lose his job and his family..he did. i spoke with him some time later and he still was so depressed. he explained that he simply could not help himself. the urge was so powerful. i admit that i cannot understand it fully but i do know that i have done things that i wish i had not done and they do not compare with this act but does give me some idea of the remorse he felt.
i do not excuse either of these men but i will not hate the man. i believe that as a christian i can detest sin but not the sinner. we all fall short sometimes and we have to live with the consequences as this man will have to live with his. i am sure he would have done things differently if he could have.
i have no clue why he would risk public humiliation and all for a few brief moments of an anonymous casual encounter but from what i have been told of the life style, this is a common activity.

I don't get it at all. Like I've said, the fact that he is gay isn't the issue it is his lying and poor behaviour that is the real issue.
I've lived in Msp, it has the third highest percentage of Gays in the US. He could have just gone to Loring park, The Saloon, or Gay 90's to pick a guy up.

I have no idea. But then again, that's not how my mind works. Public officials should know that all of their mis-deeds will be brought to light one way or another...

who knows:
some people play Russian roulette,
some base jump off of tall buildings,
some drag race on public streets,
some gamble their life savings,
Its risk taking, thrill-seeking, playing with danger. It probably produces quite an adrenaline rush.

My guess is the knowledge of what the republicans want to do with homosexuals would cause any of them to live in fear and try to hide.
What is the difference between cruising for sex in an airport and looking for a hooker down a back alley? Is one so much more classy than the other?
