poor people to become dependant on the federal government, how do you feel about the Fed bailing out the stock market?

I don't like that either. The markets should be left alone to correct themselves. I oppose any form of hand outs of my money for no good reason. the government shouldn't stick it's nose where it doesn't belong. That goes double for the airline industry.

Your comparison/analogy between the bailout of the mortgage industry (not the stock market) and welfare are incongruent.

The Fed and other Central Banks around the world decided that the entire world economy might collapse, so that would be bad for everyone in the world, so that's why they did it. Of course, we are still in the midst of the turmoil so more needs to be done, whether or not anyone think it's the right thing to do or not. Not doing it will affect the whole world negatively.

Is the gov. bailing them out or simply keeping the easily frightened speculators from starting a stampede? In 1987 the Dow Jones was about 2700, then went down about 500 over two months, then 505 in one day. In 1929 less than this was the start of the depression, allowing government to make great mistakes. In 1987 we had Reagan and the Fed. They stepped in to get things calmed down, then got out. Results were favorable. It was not really a bailout.

Or Chrysler, or the Airlines, or US Oil, like FDR did?

There is a deference between those who mismanage their companies and bleed them dry, often taking off with their employees pensions that is money employees put in their retirement, not the business!

I don't see how anyone can see them as bad as our economy runs on supply and demand and there will NEVER be full employment. And Republicans claim they should take any job if available! Childcare cost more than they earn and 1/2 of American taxpaying families earn $25,000 a year or less. That is poverty wages. Let them go work at Burger King and go back and live with their parents, while Burger King rakes in the dough. Same with Walmart and others!

Those who are pro-business tend to see "free enterprise" as a one-way street, and to further take away labor's right to be paid, the government has taken away peoples ability to strike, leaving them with no clout!

I think if business can't pay a decent wage, they don't belong in business. You know who's backs they are making their money off of! One -half America earning poverty wages is obscene!

What about Corporate Welfare? In 2006 alone, the US government gave out $92 BILLION dollars in corporate welfare. If you started a business and it failed, would the government bail you out? No! So why are these Corporate Giants being supported on the backs of the hard working, tax paying American citizens? If we can help the most fortunate in our society, why can't we help the LEAST fortunate?

I believe that social services are bad for the reason you gave. I also believe they are morally wrong simply because the wealth transfer constitutes stealing from one group of people to give it to another. Stealing is always wrong.

It is just as wrong to steal to provide corporate welfare. Apart from the moral consideration, I believe that the poor would actually be better off without their welfare if the corporate welfare was also eliminated. Corporate welfare ensures that companies stay in business despite poorly serving their customers.

A strong economy and business benefits all. Creating dependents out of perfectly capable human beings benefits no one.

I think it's great how so many with jobs despise business. It makes about as much sense as them resenting the food they had for dinner.
