I stopped rocking my baby when she wasn't a baby anymore . . . now I rock a small child to sleep . . . and love every minute of it. I hope she will never be too big for her mother's comfort. Heck, I'm 25 and I still call my mom when I feel the need for comfort.

What every newborn needs most is cuddling and rocking!! Every child is different and if others were lucky enough to have a baby that they did not have to "rock" to sleep that is great, but purposely not rocking them when they are a newborn is not the best solution, self soothing can be taught when they are a little older. You should never let a baby "cry it out" before six months.

The idea that they need to learn to self sooth is a bunch of crud. My son is 9 months and I still nurse and rock him to sleep. And I cuddle with my 3 year old and sing him to sleep. It is not a bad habit, it is a healthy one. Self-soothing...bah....most adults don't self-sooth to sleep, why should we force a baby to, they are still new to the world. Forcing them to self-sooth will just create insecurity. Allowing a child to find independence on their own makes their independence much more secure and gives emotional stability.

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and sometimes gets rocked to sleep by grandma, daddy, or me. If you and your baby enjoy it, why stop?

Still do at 6 months and will as long as he needs it.
I would rather rock my son until he's in college than let him cry it out.
Babies don't need to learn to self soothe. I feel sorry for kids whose parents think they do.

I advise you yo follow your instinct of a mother ,you are the only one that form a bond with your baby. Babies are all different . You will know when it's the right time.
