I don't mean to gross you, but a method I've found. A squirrel was run over and paralised. Couldn't move, except for slithering on its stomack near my tomato plants. I dispatched it and it bled. Other squirrels have avoided the area.

That is kind of gross though. I don't think I have the heart to pick up road kill.
