Israel will remain connected to the hip of any power (preferably super) that will help it sustain its aggressive apartheid like domination of the Palestinians and its military supremacy over its surrounding Arab neighbors ("The Iron Wall" By Avi Shlaim).
Before 1967 it was the British and the French colonial powers that were closely allied to the Israelis, as is evident in the illegal invasion and occupation in the Suez Canal and Sinai in 1957 by the three belligerents. A failed last attempt by the decaying colonial powers to assert themselves on their previous subjects in particular, and the Arab world in general worked very well in Israel's favor since they would keep the Sinai from the spoils. It was actually the United States that opposed this naked aggression and forced the French and British to leave the Suez and Israel to return the Sinai. Funny how times have changed.
Realizing that colonialism in its 19th century form was dead, Israel leeched onto the United States, the eventual winner of the super power struggle. It was in the United States favor to adopt Israel as a proxy in its search to assert its hegemony on the Middle East's vast energy resources.
Through the powerful pro-Israeli lobbies and dominant Jewish ownership of US media enterprises this relationship was easily fostered and pulled over the unwary American public.
A very good in depth analysis of the relationship between Israel and the United States can be found in the "London Review of Books" sponsored debate that was held in New York: "The Israel lobby: does it have too much influence on American foreign policy?"

America is really the only friend of Israel... they will stick with us as long as we have a military industrial complex and that means forever.

Yes, because America is basically the only Nation supporting them. Britain does, too, but not to the extreme that we do. Israel will be in GRAVE danger were America to fall as a world power. Every Arab nation will take advantage of it, since they hate Jews as much as they do. I find it rather ridiculous that people say hate cannot be taught, because the Jews have never harmed any Arab nation, unless defending themselves, and their country. All the Jews ever wanted was peace, and a land to call their own.

It seems to me that Israel is one of the few countries that would still be on good terms with the US if it ever lost its standing as a primary power.
We have made no friends in other portions of the globe, and they will be more than happy to rid themselves of a country they only tolerated before.
