My ex is an ahole, he brought my daughter home yesterday on the back of his harley, the drive is 45 minutes long and she is 7 yrs old and so tiny, if he hit a pot hole she'd go flyin. Any ideas on what I can do to make sure he won't do it again. I already called my lawyer.

first off, the legal issue. u dont say what state ur in, but in some states, as long as a minor has a helmet on, there is no passenger age restriction at all, even if the kid cant reach the pegs. in other states tho, she has to be able to reach the pegs and have a helmet on. u can find out exactly what the state law is on bikes and passengers here. http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp

i recently was on a poker run, and 1 of the riders had his 7 yr old son on the back. this kid was short enough that he couldnt reach the pegs, but had no problem holding onto his dad thru some very tight switchbacks, and he was having a very fun time.

kids at her age are smarter than u think. she's not stupid enough not to hold on if she cant reach the pegs, and the kid on the poker run had his feet up on the hard saddle bags.
if ur daughter didnt feel comfortable about taking this long of ride, she would have said so to her dad before they even took off. u also didnt say what bike he has. if he has a road king or 1 of the dressers, they're built primarily for the highway, and they also ride about as smooth as a cadillac.

i would advise easing up on her a bit. trying to pit her against dad just because u dont like this or that could backfire and come back to haunt u. sounds to me u've never even been on the back of a harley either. as long as he is following the letter of the law in reguards to having her on the back of his bike, there is nothing.....zip, zero, nada....nothing u can do. he has every right as her dad to give her harley rides. be civil towards him around ur daughter, or as sure as god made rain, u will wind up having her start to highly resent u, and u will ultimately succeed in pushing her away. ur lawyer will say the same thing i said. he is her biological dad, and short of legal defined child endangerment, he is fully legal to give her rides.....and will say this as he's handing u his current bill for legal advise.

Legally there is nothing you can do. Sounds like your relationship isn't the best, but try to calmly ask him how he's handling safety -- helmet, sissy bar (back-rest for the kid to help stay on the bike), hand grip, etc. Certainly riding on the back of a motorcycle isn't as safe as a car with a 3-point seatbelt but it isn't nearly as dangerous as driving while talking on the cell phone, driving at the start of a rainstorm, speeding/changing lanes quickly, etc.

I would take my kids on the bike, when they were small. If he is an experienced rider, then I think your case against him is invalid. I took my son for his first ride, when he was five. He had glasses, a helmet, and a firm grip on my belt. It is up to you, but calling a lawyer is kinda pointless. There is no law, that prohibits a father from giving his little girl, a ride on his Harley.

Would it have made any difference if your ex rode a BMW??? I'm with Yabbogabbo... A very weak motorcycle question. Besides skateboard is more hazardous to a 7-year olds health.

I think I might have a name for you.
Ex. I got one too, but a little different than you.
All my children have ridden on my motorcycles.
My oldest was six when he first rode.
My youngest still does.

Legal transportation is legal.
Even a lawyer can't change that.

Don't want her on the bike? Go pick her up instead of him making the drive. Then she can ride in or on whatever you choose. Most likely a broomstick.

I'd say you're the (_o_) . Kids love motorcycle rides. Why would you want to deny her that?
Ask her if she had fun!

Nothing you can do, as long as she is wearing a helmet. It's all legal.

He's doing it just to make you mad and.....She likes riding on the bike.
