I have a checklist. Thumbs down are issued to:
1) User's who answer with anthropomorphism (people pretending to be the dogs, cats, birds, vampires, etc. in their avatar).
2) People who put no thought into their answers ("idk lol :P", "Thanks for the 2 points!!")
3) Trolls, rude answers, judgemental people
4) Sycophants (butt-kissers)
5) People who use cliches
6) Redundant answers, or very dull answers (Q: What's your favorite book? A: Harry Potter; Q: Who is your favorite actor/acress? A: Johnny Depp).

If the person doesn't even answer the question, are compeletely wrong or if they're offensive then I might give them a thumbs down.
normally I don't waste my time giving thumbs downs and I never waste my time reporting people.
I may not like an answer but that doesn't give me the right to tell on them. I'm more mature than that I'd like to think.

I use my thumbs down sparingly...usually only for answers that are really rude or don't answer the question at all. Other than that, if I happen to see that one person on the thread is the ONLY person NOT to get a thumbs down...sometimes I will give them one just because I know they gave everyone else the thumbs downs...just in defense of the third party.

Kinda willy-nilly; I don't thumbs down any answer that I believe is not perfect. but I do thumb down any answer that is mean-spirited or badly off-topic. Also if they are ridiculously long.

well if isee someone because rude liek saying ":why dont you look in your **** for the answer" then igive them a thumbs down. im not one of those people tht decides ever answer should get a thumbs down . only the rude people and the people who just put silly answers to get those who need advice a thumbs down.but half the time i dont go through and read everyones answers so i only do it sometimes.

It depends on the answer and the question asked. Silly questions deserve silly responses. If someone gives an obviously offensive answer, I'll thumb'em down.

sometimes I just let people be. there are times when people don't answer the question, when they say something rude to the questioner or what they say has nothing to do with the question. I use the thumbs up more often though

Reasons include...
- If it is something offensive
- something mean or hateful
- something i disagree with
- depends on my mood
- so the good answers stand out from the bad
- in case they gave everyone else thumbs down
- if it against the rules
- if it didnt answer the question
- if someone copied my answer
