Sometimes. It depends on how tired they are. Give him something that smells familiar...a blanket, a teddy something secure. One thing that helped with my daughter is I slept in a t-shirt for a couple of nights then gave it to her. She would snuggle up to that and fall right to sleep. My Ped. said she could still smell me and it made her feel secure.

At this age, he is into learning...and what fun it is to be in a new environment! He's not interested in napping :) So, go back to the hotel room, turn off the tv, dim the lights, and start rocking. Or, take him for a long stroll, maybe he will sleep in the stroller. When we're on vacation, which is often, Noah sleeps while we drive. It's the best we can do!

I know it's hard to do, but if you always rock him thats what he will always need. There is no correct answer just what works for you and your son. The biggest thing is don't forget how cute 8 month olds are! Good luck.

I would suggest taking the nap CD with you where you are going and invest in a boom box. That way he has his music and his mommy. He'll feel more normal and secure.

My daughter has always slept well everywhere. Maybe bring his CD with you wherever you go and find a quiet place to rock him if you need too. I always let my daughter fall asleep on her own and in noisy areas so she wasn't dependent on a specific crib or quiet area. Good luck!
