Some definitely are. I had a friend when I was a kid lived in the projects close to a railroad tunnel that was constantly plagued with RATS. Thus many of the apts were too. She brought in a cat and never had another problem.

The manager found out and threaten to evict her because of NO PETS ALLOWED. So she simply told him fine and when the rats came back to her apt. she'd take pics and send them to HUD. That was the last she heard from management. In fact a couple of years later they repealed that restriction. After that they stayed in the tunnel.

I had one mouse that defied every attempt to catch it. From humane traps to poison. I got a kitten just a couple of months old and it caught and killed it the first day, including another one I didn't know I had until it climbed up and was caught doing so. That's how I finally found out where it had come from and was able to fix the hole. They only need like a 1/2 inch opening to get in.

When I was young many more house had cats then now (dogs were few and far between) The cats were needed to keep down the mouse population which at that time was a real problem
Mice will avoid areas where cats are so if you have a cat in a house they will scarper to next door who don't have one
So yes a cat is a very good deterrent if you have mice.

Only for when the mice are running around the inside looking for food. Mice will live in the walls and roofing areas for months and never come into the home directly. So the cat might help, but only a little bit. Good Luck!

Well, the mice might be trying to stay hidden more with a cat in the area. They can probably smell the cat and the cat urine and know there is a predator around. They will try to keep concealed a bit more to avoid being eaten. The cat may have gotten a few of them, too.

They certainly are - but even better when the mice know theres a cat in the house they tend to just move on anyway!

No mouse in sight, they are in hiding. You'll need to bait them out so the cat can get rid of them, otherwise they will just come back out when the cat leaves.

Cats in a house usually stop mice from entering,as they smell the scent.

Oh Yeah!
We live on a large, VERY "country" property and have 13 cats
(funny thing is, we started with 2 females...lol) Now we no longer have ANY mice, rats, spiders, snakes, etc.
They take care of a lot of acreage because they like to hunt and they like to roam while they do it.
The only downside is the occasional bird carcass left at my back door for my "approval & admiration..."

Yes. Be lucky your neighboor's cat is not a show off. Some cats like to show you how good of a mouser they are by leaving a dead carcass in the middle of the floor for you to see or worse, step on.
