I'm hosting an exchange student from France and I was wondering if there is anything that can help her "cope" with America, like how to handle to food situation, culture shock those types of things. I also am open to ideas about things for her to experiance about America while she's here. Thanks

You show her around your part of America, introduce her to all the different things that she's never seen or tasted. Take her to a ball game or a theme park. Take her to the mall. Get manis & pedis. She won't be in culture shock. She's here to explore America, so she'll want to try all sorts of new things.

Ask her what she would like to try or see. I hosted six Japanese boys once (yes, six! long story) and they were as thrilled to go to a hobby shop and look at remote control cars as they were anywhere else. My German students liked the idea of going to McDonalds and not paying extra for pickles and condiments, like they do in his country, so he wanted to go there a lot. And the girl from Austria had never cooked or eaten fried chicken so she was thrilled to do that. The boy from Germany was the only one who was homesick--the others were thrilled to be anywhere lots of other kids were and enjoyed practicing their English.
Don't schedule her week so strictly that she doesn't have time to rest and decompress. She wants to take home fond memories and great stories.
