ok my school is putting on the show for Fall and i want to audition. What is it about and who are the main female characters? Also what are the girl characters like. websites would help also... please help...

This is a great show about the divining or searching for truth and faith as well as water. I am directing it at my school this year! I always recommend that my students read the show before auditioning...though that is tough sometimes.
The play is by Jim Leonard Jr. There is a novel of the same name by Margaret Laurence. THEY ARE NOT RELATED!
As for female roles...Buddy's sister Jenny is a strong, young female who works hard to keep her "slow" brother in line. Probably the most coveted, but I think the most fun roles could be the real character studies of older church women in the town.
If you google "The Diviners" and "Jim Leonard" the results should give you a few synopsis write-ups. Hey, I am a teacher, I wouldn't want to pull the learning experience from you by just handing you all of the info, right? ;-)

Your school is putting this on? Many schools have banned the book (written by Margaret Laurence) because of Christian groups being against it. I didn't even know they've adapted it for the stage. There was a movie a while back that was on TV, perhaps this page can give you some insight, but maybe not much. At least there's a synopsis:
