thanks for putting me straight The Messerschmitt was the first jet engine for the fighter plane!
(never listen to a man propping up the bar) you get more sense on here but does anyone know about any Italian designs for the jet engine?
Also could someone tell me about i remember seeing lots of American's interviewed saying they had lots of trouble fighting a Russian plane as they had just been granted to copy the Rolls Royce engine (post world war 2) and their plane could go much higher altitude than the American's and it's armour was much more tough than the American's were used too.The Russian's were helping Korea at the time but were still supposed to be neutral and therefore told it's pilots that capture was not an option. What plane was this?
Any info or more is much appreciated!

The first jet engines were actually developed in Romania way before World War II. Romanian inventor Alexandro Ciurcu (1884-1922) built and tested his jet engine on a small ship running on the Seine River in Paris in 1886 and on a rail car in 1888. The first jet aircraft was constructed in 1910 by another Romanian engineer, Henri Coanda (1886-1972). The aircraft was exhibited at the 1910 International Aeronautical Show in Paris, and Coanda tested the engine near Paris. The flight tests, however, ended in an accident.

As to the Russian jet fighter used in Korea, that definitely was MiG-15. "MiG" stands for "Mikoyan and Gurevich", the last names of the two head designers, who went on to design a variety of jet fighters for the Soviet armed forces.

I think the first jet engine was produced by Frank Whittle.

Xmas 1939, there was a cartoon of an RAF pilot opening his stocking to find a jet fighter.

I think the Supermarine Spitfire had jets before Messerschmitt
