They used to for many years...and think they still do when not on operational duties. ...before equal opportunities in the mid 1970's Police women had their own department and did not work nights or most normal patrol duties...nor did they get the same pay....following equal pay they had to go out on Patrol...the obvious difficulties in wearing skirts were soon realised when climbing over walls, gates, fences, running and fighting with prisoners...culottes were tried but eventually it was decided that trousers were the best and most practical option.....

I think its probably because running in a skirt, especially the pencil skirts police women used to wear, is not an easy thing to do under the best of circumstances. Don't u think it'd be kinda hard to do everything they are supposed to in a skirt? U try wearing one then go and chase someone down the road. Trust me...it's not as easy as it looks.

it is much more practical to wear trousers. it would be difficult to run after and restrain somebody if you were wearing a skirt. you also would have trouble if you had to climb anything.

trousers are suitable ....
skirts are tighter and doing the climbing the skirt might go up and easily caught on
