OUt of all the input I've seen so far, tiki is the one that is correct. In so far as the "research" someone was suggesting to do, I don't see why they would say such a thing and then say yeah you can, when typically, the fish that are raised in the tanks, meaning HOME PETS, not the commericalized lobsters and stuff you see in stores, but your typical home fish which someone would naturally assume you mean, are not raised in the same way wild fish are. Tiki is 100% correct in that many of the chemicals added to support a closed biosphere such as an aquarium is, are carcinogenic in nature. By no means should you eat/consume the tropical home kept fish. This is not a pure enough replica of their natural enviroments. Most of the medications given to treat disease and even the foods are not for human uses, and again are carcinogenic in chemical nature. The outright answer is NO.

Any you want, I guess, but most will be small and not all that tasty. You could raise apple snails to eat in a fish tank. They were introduced into Asia as a food source and they get as big as a golf ball and can be prepared the same way as escargot. They're supposed to be quite a delicacy, though I'm much too fond of mine to ever give it a try.
I've heard lots of people with guppies joking about guppy fry pie when they despair of ever keeping up with the ever-dropping females of the species. You do tend to get overwhelmed with what to do with all those fish after a while! :p

If you do it correctly, yes you can. People don't realize that we eat lobster from fish tanks. And alot of the fish we buy from the supermarket is tank raised (not quite like a fish tank but more like a big metal pond.
It depends on the kind of fish you want to raise. I wouldn't recommend eating most tropical fish that we think of as pets, like goldfish, molly's, neon's, stuff like that.
But if you are serious, you can raise catfish, bass, trout, like you catch in a lake, but it would take some serious research on your part because these fish cannot really go neglected.
Good luck, and the main point is....DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Yes, u can & probably already do. Many commercially valued fishes are now fattened & / or bred in captivity - in tanks or pens. Depending on yr country's laws on health control, it may be safer to eat captive fishes than wild ones, which are liable to carry more diseases / germs.
If u have a very fine pallette, u may find wild fishes taste better. If yr market sells both, probably wild fishes will be costlier than farmed ones.

Usually not a good idea. If you look on the sides of any chemicals-dechlorinators or meds used for fish, it says not for food fish. A lot of those contain cancer causing agents, so unless you want to risk that.....then have at :) Otherwise, I wouldn't advise it.
Why not go to the store or market and buy some frozen or fresh fish instead?????

I saw that on Jackass. One of the guys swallowed a bunch of water with a gold fish in it. Then he made himself vomit the whole thing back up and the fish was swimming around in the bowl again.
Nasty.
