I don't want a dive - but I want a "smoking rooms" hotel - it's impossible to tell from the map -

for instance, in the city in which I live, I would refer people to stay north of downtown, or in the suburbs to the north of the city, as opposed to the south of downtown - I don't want to get robbed or killed -

but I also don't want to stay in a 5* hotel that costs $300/night

but I also will probably be staying in room number 420 and don't want any anally retentives or any "family heavy" presence - i.e. hotels directly by Worlds of Fun, Chiefs stadium 4ex:

Am I the only one who finds this question strange? You want a hotel room - but you "will probably be staying in room number 420"? Like are you trying to send a hidden message to someone? Either that or you're just plain strange to have to request a certain room number. What if there isn't a 4th floor? Maybe find a hotel at 31st and Troost and you will fit right in.

You could try the American Inn in Blue Springs or on Armour Rd. in North kansas City.

If you don't mind being near the airport, possibly the Econolodge. There are also Super 8, Days Inn, Best Western, Red Roof and Microtels that fall into this price range.

You may want to try the Kansas side of KC (rather than MO)...this will eliminate the traffic from Worlds/Oceans of Fun and the Chiefs stadium.

Try a hotel in Overland Park. Stay away from the east side of town. If you gave some addresses I could tell you better.
