Yes, if that's what their labor is worth on the open market.
No, if it's worth more.

Yes. I think it's a great idea. It's crossed my mind a few times. So has the idea for a Constitutional amendment that would require the president to be the poorest person in the nation. BTW these "You get what you pay for." people make me laugh. Looking at the world economy today that would mean that there are millions of people who are worth $3.00 per day on a 14 hour shift and a handful of people who are worth hundreds of millions of dollars per year. I don't buy it for a second.

originally political offices didn't pay. They were what they were meant to be, civil servants. George Washington, Franklin, Adams and so forth were not paid to be in offices they did it for the good of their country. I agree though, that they should be paid minimum wage and i'll even be nice to say they should get benifits.

WOW that's the best idea yet!
Let's let them budget their meager incomes and see how far their stock portfolios grow once they're earning Minimum Wage!
Here in my county, the representatives are supposedly ~ PART TIME yet they make $60-$120,000 a year. And even though the county is in slight financial trouble, they did not hesitate to vote themselves a raise.
I should have such a part time job.

They need to make more than that since most of them are lawyers ,etc.I wouldn't work that job for minimum wages.
We would really be in a mess with uneducated people in there .Our Politicians make way too much and have the best benefits in American and i am for cutting that down.I do not think they should be able to just give themselves raises on a whim.People should vote on them.

You made a very valid argument. I most definitely agree that public service is a calling just like missionary work. ;)

Nope. If you want to attract a professional that will do a good job, you pay for what you get. Now a politician that volunteers his time because he's already wealthy ... now that is a sign of honor.

I think they should be "pay as you go", they get something done they get paid and if they don't get anything done, well you get the point and so would they :) Both parties are incompetent.

considering that i won't work for minimum wage, i see no reason why an attorney would.
the way you get the best people is by paying them, not by making them feel guilty.
