I have a five month old daughter, and I had to use Clomid to get pregnant with her. We want to have another baby within a few months from now. Will it be safe to use since I am breastfeeding her?

Clomid will cause your milk supply to dry up or at least become very low.
As for what affects it will have on your daughter, it isn't known whether clomid passes into breast milk.

To the poster that said that breastfeeding while pregnant is harmful is out to lunch. Unless you are having complications in your pregnancy it is fine to breastfeed all thru pregnancy!

If you're eager to become pregnant first steps may include charting some cycles or reducing breastfeeding to evaluate your fertility status. If you are not ready to try to conceive, though, you may do well to take precautions since fertility reversals do occur.

Although there is no direct research, there is no obvious reason to believe that fertility treatments would harm the breast milk. To find out the latest on how a particular drug affects breastfeeding, turn to Thomas Hale, MD's Medications and Mothers' Milk. Clinical observations suggest that Clomid (Clomiphene) is compatible with breastfeeding. And there is no reason to expect that breastfeeding would affect your fertility treatment because the drugs will control your cycle.

I would talk to your doctor. My presciption information that came with my Clomid says to talk to a doctor before breastfeeding because it is unknown if it is passed in breast milk. So I bet your doctor won't put you on Clomid while breast feeding. I would wait until you are done breastfeeding to ttc another baby. I know you can be pregnant and breastfeed but that has to take alot out of your body. I would spend this time bonding with the new baby. Good luck and congrats on your daughter.

I would certainly consult my Dr. about that one. It is not good to breastfeed while pregnant. Nursing can cause the uterus to contract and result in a miscarriage. I wouldn't even take Tylenol when carrying my 3 kids! See what your OB recommends. Some drugs cause horrible deformities.

Talk to your doctor.
