The salaries and cost of living in Alabama are moderate. It really depends on the occupation and supply and demand. Housing and cost of living are comparable to most other states. As far as what life is like, it really depends on where you live. If you live in one of the major cities or a University town there is a lot to do and good entertainment. Otherwise the state is mostly rural. Small towns, the people are for the most part friendly. There still remains some areas of racial bias but you can find that in most states. If you are looking for a place to live, I would recommend Montgomery, Mobile and Huntsville. Birmingham is largest but I never liked it as much. I also enjoyed living in Tuscaloosa and Florence.
