I am going to be 32 weeks on Saturday. I do have gestational hypertension and have to see my doctor twice a week. My boyfriend and I were planning to take a 10 hour car trip for Labor Day weekend, to visit his parents in Wisconsin (we live in Kentucky). I am just curious if it is ok for me to do this. I can't see any reason why it would be a problem. I know that I have not started to dialate yet.

I would get ahold of your doctor and ask him to make sure that is it safe for you to travel in a vechile for that long of a time. But if it is alrite i would make sure that you know where hostipals are along the way.

Even though my doctor would have rather me not travel, but ended up giving me her blessing, I just flew 6 1/2 hours to Hawaii at 34 weeks pregnant. I don't have hypertension issuses, but I did have some pretty intense swelling in my ankles and feet, even though I was up all the time and drank almost 2 liters of water. When we got to our room, I took the rest of the day to keep my feet up to get the swelling down. The flight back wasn't so bad as going out...
Good luck and have fun!

My OB okayed me to go to the Breeders Cup four weeks before I gave birth, his only instructions were that if I went into labor, go to the nearest hospital, don't try to make it home. As long as you can map out some hospitals on your route, I think you'd be okay to travel at 32 weeks.

my only concern is being in a car for 10 hrs may aggrivate your hypertension or lead to blood clots, which can be a problem in the 3rd trimester. Call your dr for permission first.

Just make sure you have your doctor's phone numbers handy in case anything should crop up and be sure to plan a route with frequent rest stops and when you do stop, walk around a little to improve circulation in your legs.

You should be fine.
