No.

Many Mesoamerican nations adopted the mechanics of the Mayan calendar including Aztecs. The calendars were based upon cycles of numbers like 18 and 20 in the same way that the Gregorian calendar uses 7, 12, 30. Where we would consider 100 years and 1000 years as events, so did the Mesoamarican people mark cycles with their calendars. The Aztec had two calendars. The xiuhpohualli of 365 days based upon the year and the tonalpohualli of 260 days based upon the number of days from zenith to zenith. The two calendars coincided every 52 years making the 'calendar round' cycle. They marked other cycles of 584 days, 819 days, and longer cycles called baktuns. 13 baktuns was a cycle that added up to roughly 5125 years. This is why the confusion about an end comes in. The cycle ends in 2012 but it in no way signifies an end of the world. Only the end of that cycle. Then the next cycle begins. Aztecs and Mayans NEVER spoke of an end to the world. Just like the world did not end at the last cycle in 3114 BC. It is just a way of keeping track of time. In 2013 the next cycle simply begins. That's all. Similar to our calendar ending in 12/31/07.

Any end-of-the-world hype is being put forth on false 2012 websites to create fear in order to attract more viewers to their site so they can sell advertising space. Don't fall for any of it. If you want to know more about the calendar or 2012, seek out books by John Major Jenkins who has devoted the last 20 years studying the Mesoamerican culture.

The Mayans, Aztecs, Hopi Indians and various other groups all prophesied that something will happen in 2012, but not necessarily that the world will end, more like, the world as we know it will end.
I nearly forgot there is something also to do with the line up of some planets, i think they line up on the 21/12/2012 and i think (but could be wrong) that the earth venus and the milkyway come into allighnment. Something like that, you'd need to look it up for the proper facts.

The Mayan calendar ends in 2012. They thought it would be an ending to the world, or a complete makeover of the world as it exists now.

The world will not "end" in 2012. The world is changing, and may undergo drastic change, but it will still be here. Will humans live through the change? Unknown...

No. The Mayan's calender that has everyone upset says nothing of the sort. They simply ran out of room on the rock they were carving the calender in.

Neither Mayan calenders, eclipses, comets, Nostradamus, nor Bill Gate's programming lapses will cause the End Of The World.

Ease up just a bit, and I'll see you in 2013.

Actually, it was the Mayans, and they made a calendar up through 2012... Our calendars end every year on December 31, and we've never had a problem so far.

No. It was the Mayans. And there is no evidence they thought the world would end on that date. Even if they did, I do not believe the Mayans could predict the future.

Just recently, a stone carving has been found and translated from Mayan. It says, "Got to get another stone to continue this calendar after 2012 ..."

Remember... many people were absolutely sure it would end in 2000. Then came the 7-07-07 scare. But.. here we still are on Yahoo.

no and no. Remember the "Mayans" didn't have a roman catholic calendar so the world ending 2012 years after christ was born wouldn't have fallen into their belief system whatsoever.
