The legal age of consent in Illinois is 17. This is the age at which a man or woman may engage in consensual sex with an adult partner, either male or female. The age of consent applies to homosexual relations as well as heterosexual acts. Several other states set the age of consent at 17, including Nebraska, Colorado, Louisiana and Texas.

If you search "age of consent by state" you get a list. Illinois came up 16/17.
All I can conclude from this is either it depends on the severity of the crime ( example: just dating someone older and being sexually involved or savage rape) and age of the persons involved or there is a bill pending to change the law.

There are no hard age of consents.
In most states, it is 16 years old,
BUT, they have also added laws, concerning the age of the other party.
So while the age of consent might be 16 years old, if their partner is say " 35", then the law makes the age of consent 18.
Generally the real age of consent is 18.
Most states have additional laws, specifying the age differences between partners, if one partner is below 18 yrs old.
So its never cut and dried.
And every state will be different.
The best rule of thumb, is if you are over 18 years old, don't have sex with anyone under 18 years old.
To do so, would put you in jeopardy of being sent to jail.
