I do not understand what you mean by 'is a dog worth jail time?'
Why should a human be treated better than a dog? My dog is a member of my family and is loved as such. He is loyal, faithful and well mannered, which is more than I can say for a lot of human beings.
Edit: Why should it be frightening? I love my dog and he is very well treated.

There's nothing frightening in Rosie's answer. I find it more frightening that in this so called civilised society we're supposed to live in animal cruelty is on the increase.
I always presume that if a person can't be kind and responsive to an animal, how on earth can I trust them to be any different with me?
And as for being part of the family, as a child I endured a fair amount of racial abuse and sometimes the family dog was the only consolation I had in a bitter harsh world. She didn't notice my skin colour, she just accepted me unconditionally, and I've loved all animals ever since

YES!
The REALLY sick thing about this world is how many Americans enjoy watching boxing, ultimate fighting, extreme fighting broadcast all over the U.S. These fights are where human beings get injured and die. The REALLY sick thing is how many Americans do not give a damn about the plight of hurricane victims in their own country. The REALLY sick behavior is how many Americans pamper their pet dogs and cats while ignoring the plight of millions of AMERICAN CHILDREN in poverty and hunger in good 'ol US of A.
The REAL sickness of this world is American animal culture where animals are treated better than people. If Americans want to equate themselves with dogs, they would only be confirming to the world what the world sees as they become more like animals.
Judging from the intelligence capacity of many dog owners in this country, I'd say they ARE more aligned with the dog species than other human beings.

People who would treat any living thing poorly. Are no better than the things we call animals.Infact it has been my experience that a person who would harm an animal would harm a child. And yes a dog is worth jail time.I personally am a cat person. But I have made friends with a few k-9's.

if you're referring to the whole Vick ordeal - dogs don't deserve to be burned...and tortured for not winning a fight. I'm pretty sure we don't make the losing team of any of our sports suffer...except for the occassional "boo-ing"...
just because a dog isn't human, doesn't mean humans can just torture and kill them. so yes, dogs are worth jail time because it's considered a felony in this country. don't like it? move.
by the way - my house is spotless, always has been..and we have always had dogs. i'm pretty sure that people who don't have dogs have poor hygiene as well. that's such a ridiculous association to make.

I've not undertaken a systematic examination of people equate dogs to humans versus people who do not (whatever that means, anyway), but I haven't anecdotally noticed anything of that sort. Most people who treat their dogs well seem to be pretty good people anyway.
Is there any possibility you could concentrate your efforts into just one question? Perhaps it might make sense then.

If the parents of the gang members looked after their children the way that responsible dog owners look after and love their pets, we might have a better society. What is your definition of a human being? Someone who walks on two legs?

hmmm no and yes.
huge generalization on people who like dogs is really never a bad idea; no generalizations are.
cruelty to animals is worth jail time. we are supposedly the highest evolved lifeforms on this earth and it should be our duty to protect other life, not harm it. unfortunately, we are way off the mark there, as your question has further proven.

Many people defend dogs saying "they are part of the family and stuff" but i bet if someone said to you bash your dogs skull in with a telephone book or i will kill your child you wouldnt think twice about your dog, or for that matter your phonebook...
But i still dont think its right to cause pain to a dog for no reason but unless it was for the protection of you or your family, so yes it should be worth Jail time
