Tanning beds are not recommended for use by pregnant women namely becuase they bring your body temp to high. In most cases tanning can increase your core temp to well above 106 degrees. Anything above 102 has been known to cause significant birth defects and spinal deformities. This is the same reason they tell you not to go into saunas or use hot tubs during pregnancy. They've not been able to prove other myths about tanning while pregnant, but this one fact is good enough for me.

Go out and catch some natural rays for a few minutes everyday. Your body will enjoy nature's best source of vitamin D. Just make sure to keep cool and stay hydrated!

Ok so..... First off, there is NO radiation in tanning beds.... second, the body heats up and yes, you get hot... but you are NOT cooking your insides. Doesn't work that way. Here's the deal... You can go. Its not recommended if you are sensitive to the light/heat or both. Personally, I was told BY MY DOCTOR, that it is ok to go. Not more than once per week, which I wouldn't go that much anyway, and I must use a higher density bed so that I stay cooler and don't burn. I have a skin condition which only sun exposure helps. I am miserable if I don't get some sun, and right now, I just don't have the time to get out and lay in the sun for a few hours. I also put the towel over my belly when I go. The bigger you get, the closer you are to the top bulbs, so I cover myself to avoid burning. You can NOT hurt the baby. Even if you are past 27 weeks and his/her eyes can open. Use the towel if it makes you nervous and limit yourself. Don't make it a habit. Sorry for the life story! ;)

I have a friend that is a certified tanning technician and she said it is safe. I've known women to tan during pregnancy and their baby was perfect. I didn't tan when I was pregnant.I just didn't want to take any chances with my babies health. Nine months is not a lot of time to get a little pale and it gives your skin a break from adding more skin cancers =)
If you need to tan, lay outside, go to the beach. Lots of women dig holes in the sand for their bellies to fit in.

Well, first of all, tanning beds are far more harmful to skin than regular sunlight, because the UV rays are so concentrated. Secondly, the heat from the tanning bed can cause the fetal heartbeat to speed up to a dangerous pace. Third, you really shouldn't use tanning beds in the first place, as they are such a rampant source of skin damage which leads to skin cancer.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! Because you can seriously harm your skin first of all, second of all, that heat is not good for your baby. If you are that adamant about being tan during your pregnancy, use one of those develop over time lotions. It's much better for you. Also, there's an added plus, because of the lotion, you'll be hydrating your skin and have less of a chance of prominent stretch marks.

Tanning beds are hot, and Overheating is associated with spinal malformations in the baby.

One of the biggest concerns regarding tanning and pregnancy lies with the possibility of dehydration or overheating which is referred to medically as hyperthermia. In the initial stages of pregnancy, there are certain studies that have linked extreme hyperthermia to birth defects including heart problems, abdominal-wall defects and problems with the development of the nervous system.

HEY!!!! NO NO NO. And even if not pregnant. NO NO NO. To break it down a tan is when the skin cells absorb radiation. You get this from the sun every day now going to the bed and getting more is like takin extra pain meds when you dont need it soon your skin cells will not preform properly . however you will have very sexy skin. I do advise a natural tan for no longer then 30 -45 min a day in ok temperatures. Be safe not silly. Remember our ozone is going so now or days we get more radiation then years back its very dangerous.

You know, I've heard that it's not recommended, but I'm not sure exactly what the reason is. I think generally it's ok to use them, but I would honestly ask your doctor if there are any risks. Ya know, I would just do a spray tan until after the pregnancy.

Tanning beds like the solar provide out radiation, so employing a tanning mattress can furnish the possibility that your offspring turnes out to grow to be somthing alongside the traces of spiderman/teenage ninja turtles/the hulk or an entire freak. choose for it!
