Oh I'm from the UK myself, but I just mean in general. I know we don't have 'pageants' as such, but we have all those 'bonniest baby' competitions etc. Same thing really.

I absolllllutely disagree with any type of beauty pageant for boy or girl.

Make up is for adults, and is used to make us feel attractive and sexy (sometimes), in no way does a CHILD need to be seen in this way.

I also think that it teaches children at a young age that appearance is everything, this will create further problems, how does a child learn self belief when you are teaching them that being validated for being attractive, by others is more important. I know if I have a little girl I will be letting her know that she needs no disguise to be beautiful, just be a nice person and be yourself.

As well as being expensive I think it is also flaunting innocent children in the way of paedophiles, Now I know they can get info if they want it from anywhere ( the sickos) but dressing a child in provocative clothes, fake tan and make up and big hair is making it a little more attainable.

I say let them go to nursery, playschool and so on, and let them have a fun happy childhood, and we as parents are the only ones responsible for instilling self worth in our children. Thanks good question ;D you get a star

People act like that is all these kids ever do! I am a teen contestant and know many younger kids and even have little pageant sisters throughought different pageant systems. These kids love competition. They love being on stage. Many moms would be thrilled if the kids didnt want to do it anymore because it is a very expensive hobby. But that is what it is..a hobby..like dance, gymanstics or soccer..I am not a big advocate for babies being in pageants. Baby photo contests are one thing but the babies really take a lot of time in a pageant and the parents just hold them up there. It is truly a "beauty" contest. In the older divisions, contestants can exhibit talent, personality and poise. They also do interview and community service as well as maintain high academic achievement. There is just not enough to judge a baby on. Look for me on TLCs upcoming special titled "Little Miss".

I like the UKs version of Bonniest baby, but If I had children, i would never put them in a beauty pageant.

No they are not possessions! I have 3 kids all lovely looking and wouldn't dream of exhibiting them at such a tender age!
It either screws them up because they get spoilt for winning, or the other way rejected for losing!
And I think the beauty pageants are a paedophiles wonderland, sorry NO!

I disagree with putting make up on young kids and making them look like 20 year olds. I think a cute baby or toddler contest is harmless, but some of these beauty pageants where the girls are dressed like in bikinis and evening wear are disgusting.

I saw a documentary on American pageants a few months ago and the girls were covered in fake tan, had fake mouth pieces so their teeth looked perfect (scarily so) false eyelashes and layers of thick make up, I found it disturbing, they looked almost frightening. The mothers of the girls seemed to be more bothered than their daughters about who won. It made me sick.

Strongly disagree to both.

There is just no need.

They are an excuse for parents to start using their children to make money and teaching them that looks are everything from such a young age is just ridiculous.

I totally disagree, t is the parent that is ambitious when they expose there children to such degrading things as pagents.
Given the choice I don't think the child would do it.
Let them keep there innocents for as long as possible I say.

We dont have them in the Uk but it doesnt seem natural to dress a kid up with lots of make up on made to look like a small adult. So I guess I dont agree with it.

God no, paedo heaven, got my avatar from one of the judges! Well, it was actually his brother, Father Cormack O'Doyle! ;-)
Let kids be kids and keep them away from wierdos, who thinks it's normal to put make-up and wigs on a five year old? Gary Glitter?

No I do not. I think it is disgusting and not only does it exploit the child but it also sexualities them at an age when they should be kids. Remember Jon Benet Ramsey?
