well lcds tend to fade. it depends on the use (regular can be an hour a day or 12 hours depending on your definition) but most should last 3-4 years before they begin to dim notaciably.

Well where I work I have quite a few of the Dell 17" monitors that have been on for 6-7 yrs these are the old beige ones with a wide base. We have a default wallpaper and they do go sleep after a while but they do have a lot of time on them. These have a power supply like a laptop so the power supply is not part of the monitor so it may help the life.
I have had zero problems with any of the 175 Dell flat panels
The CRT ones are all going pretty well too. The new Dell monitors are all made in China so I can't say how long they will last?

It depends on how you use it. Probably about the 10,000 power on hours mark, maybe a bit more.
The backlight will wear out as long as it is on and awake, so a screen-saver, even one that blanks the screen does nothing for you.
Use the power management settings to put the monitor into sleep mode to extend the life of the monitor.

If you're lucky, probably about 3-4 years. That's the typical life of a LCD monitor. I've had mine for about 2 years now and it's still running strong.
