I had Walmart install a new battery in my minivan - a mercury villager. The positive cable is totally loose; and the negative cable had to be hammered down to stay on. The Ford dealer just called & said both cables should be replaced because the battery terminals are shot, i.e., won't adjust. Cost to replace both terminals is $309.00. My question is this cost reasonable? Do i even need whole new cables as opposed to just replacing the battery terminals? And is Walmart culpable? Thanks.

The Ford dealer isn't replacing the termanals only. He plans to bolt on entirely new cables and termanals.
The price seems auefully high to me. Yhy don't you shop arond at auto parts stores for replacements and do it ypurself. Save $200.00

Wow, to buy cables in a store should be about $20 I think. Plus a new batttery ($75) comes out to about $100 I would say.

No, it's not reasonable. A good pair of cables should run about $25 and take 30 minutes to put on.

Make it clear to me please. You said Walmart replaced your battery. Did they leave the terminals loose and hammer them down? Then you said Ford called you?? Which one did the replacement? Why is your car at Ford. Cables cost about $8.00 to $20.00 Interstate battery, about $75. Labor>> YOU do it> Priceless
