i think its just something to honor and recognize the great artist of rock and roll.

and no it doesn't change my perception on any of the artists, i know who i like and it is interesting to see what everyone else is into.

it would be nice for the fans to have a voice in it but i think they have done a pretty good job on recognizing the Greats.

Could be a big thing, but I have to tell you, ownership issues have a problem. Bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, have all been very influential to most rock music, but they may never get inducted because most of the voters don't really like the rock music of the 80s or something. Plus, there's so many bands that deserve a spot, but with the limited amounts of spots, some may just be forgotten. Deep Purple is the last of the 3 major metal pioneers to be inducted, and their chances decrease with each passing year as some of the biggies (Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, Pearl Jam) become eligible soon and are virtual locks.

I went to the "Rock Hall" for the first time on my 21st birthday. All-in-all it wasn't bad, but it wasn't a life-altering experience, either. :)

In terms of the inductions, it really doesn't change the way I view any musician - I certainly haven't gone out to buy every album that an inductee has made once they are voted in. I just don't think the distinction has that kind of clout.

I think the fans should have a voice to a certain extent. No matter who nominates or votes these artists in, I will always be skeptical of some of the choices.

It's a joke.
Examples? Sure.

Black Sabbath - How long did they go without being inducted? There's no self-respecting rocker in their rght mnd that would tell you that Sabbath wasn't hugely influential in the sound of hard rock, metal, and most of the modern music that is being served to the masses.

Kiss - Yeah, I know, some one will argue this one, but no one can really deny the impact that Kiss had on the performance aspect of music. They revolutionized the stage show. Before they came along, you got four or five guys standing on the stage with a few colored lights. If you go to a show and you see pyro, lasers, levitating drum risers, flying singers, and flaming guitars, then you thank Kiss for it. I won't argue and say that they were musical geniuses, but I will argue and point out the number of bands / artists that cite them as major influences.

Cheap Trick - They were kinda like Kiss, but without the show. What they did do though, was to merge the heavier guitar sound with the poppier rock that was around in the 70s, and in the process, created a brand new sound. You don't think it still works? Regardless of if they would admit it or not, you wouldn't have your Blink-182s and Good Charlottes of the world if not for Cheap Trick. (Then again, maybe that's a reason not to admit them.)

Heart - Simply the greatest female fronted rock band in the history of the world. Without Heart, all female singers would be relegated to singng covers of Broadway show tunes and Patsy Cline staples.

They still have a long list of artists to induct, but I'm sure they'll get to them eventually. For now, they seem to be focusing on the artists of the 60's and 70's. I think they should set up a website where fans submit their vote for who should get inducted that year. Whatever the top most voted artists are should get inducted.

It was a lot of fun to look at as a tourist. I'd still go back. However, problems have plagued the whole thing since the beginning. They never really wanted it in Cleveland in the first place, so the powers that be have this asinine compromise where the induction ceremony has to take place in NYC. Doesn't the Big Apple have enough already? Also, the voting process is severely flawed. You have one person, Jann Wenner who has virtually all the say in who gets in and who doesn't. Bad enough to have all the power concentrated in one dude, let alone a guy who gave up his integrity ages ago. Prime example, Rush isn't in the HOF because Jann has some sort of vendetta against them and prog music in general.

I think it is a very good thing for some and a 'who cares?' matter for others. I agree with most of the inductees, though I am not necessarily enamored with all of them and I agree with inductions of those who heavily influenced R&R.

On the other hand, I do not think that the R&RHOF is the full and final measure of rock and roll greatness. No hall of fame (sports or otherwise) is important to the true greats of the music or sport. The great ones do not play for a ticket to the hall.

If fans voted, it would be more like a popularity contest. It wouldn't work. But just an fyi, just to be considered, an artist/band, has to have had their first professional recording at least 25 years ago. And I agree that Hip Hop has NO business being included. It has NOTHING to do with rock and roll!!!!

Members are inducted by record label executives and others in the entertainment industry. Its not voted on by the fans and because of that it is worthless. Ozzy declined membership for years because of that reason and I have heard stories about certain bands that will never make it in because of some dumb grudge held by one of the voting members.
