People have wondered about this ever since men evolved from apes. I don't think you will find the answer on yahoo. Plus, life has different meanings to each and everyone.

I think for me life means feeling ALIVE. I want to matter, I want to make a difference; when I die, I want people to think, wow he really made a difference in my life. I feel alive when I know someone out there is thinking about me, and that my actions matter to her.

Your question, by definition, requires God as part of the answer because only God can have given us an existence along with a real purpose for that existence. And only by living for a real purpose can life have real meaning.

If we were given life by the mindless, natural process of evolution alone, then we could have no purpose and no meaning, For evolution can no more grant us meaning than a snowstorm could give meaning to a snowdrift.

If we reject God, then "meaning" is just some things to do in life that will keep us busy and make us feel good about ourselves, e.g. "I want to make a difference; when I die, I want people to think, wow he really made a difference in my life". It is nothing but seeking imagined praise to boost a self image.

I think God put our need for purpose and meaning into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him. Therefore seeking God and coming to know God is our purpose.
