I was flipping throught the channels for a movie & came accross "Texas Chainsaw Mascar." The narrative read as if this were a true story. It gives 1973 as the date they found the first survivor from those who murdered this girl's friends. It also said, "To this date, it continues." It went on to give a few more facts. Now I'm not usually gullible, but this sounded real. is it? Or are they just good at convincing people that fiction is non-fiction. Thank you for any answers you can give. If it is true, can you give me some real facts? Thanks

The movie is lightly based on a true story. The character Leatherface is based on the serial killer Ed Gein, who did use to wear his victims scalp and face but this was because of his desire to be a woman, not because of a skin disease as in the movie, he also wore a skin vest and womens breasts and female genitalia. But Ed Gein also did not use a chainsaw to kill his victims, he used a pistol.

Hollywood has a magical way of making people believe fiction by using the term "based on a true story". If that were the case for Texas Chainsaw here is what "based on a true story" would mean. It means someone in Texas was killed with a chainsaw. All the rest is BS they made up.

from what i understand, the original movie is "based" on events that happened. but then look at all the hype about the blair witch project when that first came out, they had people convinced that it was a real event.

Yeah its based on a guy named Ed Gein, but you know that hollywood has to add stuff into movies to boost ratings. But google Ed Gein and read the story if your interested .
